I’m so excited today! I received my Lensbaby Omni Filter kit and the Expansion Pack. Of course I had to go outside and play. There are so many photos I want to share, but I had to pick one and decided to go with this dandelion seed head. At the top of the lens I used the Stretch Glass filter, while on the bottom of the lens I used the Crystal Seahorse at an angle which introduced rainbow effects into the bottom right and left of the photo. I love how the top filter smoothed out the middle section and stretched out the top of the dandelion “hair”…reminds me of the Troll dolls of the 70s.
According to their website, the system is compatible with Lensbaby Velvet 56, Velvet 85, and Burnside 35 lenses only besides your regular prime and/or zoom lenses. Well guess what? I had to try it with my Sweet 50 optic, I had gotten a 46mm – 58mm step up ring to use with a 10 stop neutral density filter (haven’t had a chance to try that yet), I screwed the 58mm filter holder onto the ring; mind you I still had the 10mm and 16mm extension tubes on the back end of the lens and the 8mm and 16mm Lensbaby macro converters on the front end. Couldn’t really tell any difference. I removed the front macro converters and tried again and had about the same results. Realizing it was too heavy on the Sweet 50 optic I went back inside and grabbed my Sigma macro with Nikon mount and the converter…what a difference! Now the fun began. I tried it on the fortnight lilies that were closing, on the purple Mexican sage bush, on the trumpet vine flowers, and even on some weeds. I look forward to lots more playing/discovering with the 6 different filters.
