Day 77 of 365

Flat Stanley spent his last morning with me today. We went back to Corriganville and hiked all over the park. I wish that I had gone over later in the day as most of the poppies were still closed from last night. I was also surprised at how many people were hiking there on a Monday morning.

Since I didn’t have anyone waiting for me back at the car, I was able to walk pretty much all over the park, checking out the damage from the fire. I had a bit of a meltdown and found a place that was somewhat secluded; I squatted down and just cried. Like the other day, it was very bittersweet. Seeing burnt trees and trees that didn’t survive, those that I count on seeing every time I’m hiking there, all of that sadness could be turned around if I just concentrated on all the beauty taking over the landscape. The fire helped seeds explode, then all the rain we’ve had nourished them until the sides of the trail are popping with all sorts of wild flowers that I’ve never seen there before…and I’ve been hiking here off and on for over 20+ years!. Today’s photo was a complete stroke of luck. I had just finished focusing on the left side of fiddleheads when a butterfly landed and started to drink; I was glad the aperture was set to f8 as it ended up in focus…yay! I cropped to a square format so that the butterfly stood out.
